Embracing the Creator Economy

After spending time deeply immersed in the rapidly changing landscape of AI agents and their capabilities, we've found ourselves increasingly drawn to the amazing opportunities emerging at the intersection of AI and content creation.

While we initially built Beluga Labs as a business tool (that "Kubernetes for agentic workers" we described in our last newsletter), we kept hearing from a different audience – creators who are desperate for better tools to produce content, engage with their communities, and build sustainable businesses around their passion. Our group partner from YC often says that “an idea is usually pulled out of you by the market” if you’re able to listen. We’ve felt this as we’ve been talking to content creators to the point where we’re having to cut calls short since they’ve been going for well over twice the intended time.

Why Content Creators?

Content creators today are essentially running small businesses – managing communities, creating consistent content, handling marketing, sponsorships, and more. Yet they're cobbling together dozens of disconnected tools that weren't designed for their specific needs.

We realized that creators – particularly streamers – represent the perfect environment for AI agents to thrive:

• They need to multitask intensely (create content while simultaneously engaging with chat)

• They benefit from real-time automation (moderation, interactive elements, audience engagement)

• They're already tech-savvy and early adopters of new tools

• They have passionate communities that can provide immediate feedback

Our Vision: The AI-Native Retool for Creators

We're rebuilding Beluga Labs as the "AI-native Retool for content creators" – a visual platform where creators can easily build, run, and share powerful AI agents without needing to code.

Imagine a Twitch streamer being able to:

• Create custom chat moderators that understand their community's unique culture and inside jokes

• Build interactive game elements that respond to chat in real-time

• Generate personalized content for subscribers based on their preferences

• Analyze audience engagement patterns to optimize streaming schedules and content

All with a visual interface that makes the power of AI accessible to anyone, regardless of their technical background.

The Path Ahead

We're starting with Twitch streamers, where we've already seen tremendous interest and enthusiasm. Our first tools are focused on augmenting their content creation and community management capabilities in ways that feel futuristic but practical. The line that has been our pitch to creators: “Jarvis from Iron Man, built just for you and your community.”

This pivot feels right for so many reasons – the market is growing rapidly, the need is clear, and the technological fit is perfect. Plus, there's something special about building tools that help people turn their passions into sustainable livelihoods. We are truly excited to be building in an industry that is so fun, innovative, and far-reaching.
